American bakeries range from wholesale operations that supply restaurants to neighborhood shops that sell bread, pastries, cookies and cakes over the counter, and many of them also pour coffee. Bagel shops boil and bake on site and sell out of favorite flavors by late morning; donut shops open before dawn and are often family-run; patisseries and cake studios take custom orders for weddings and birthdays and usually need one to two weeks' notice. Ice cream parlors, gelato shops and frozen yogurt bars are seasonal in the northern states and year-round in the South and on the West Coast. Prices are posted per item, by the dozen or by the pound, and most shops now take cards and mobile payment.

What started as a great Sunday afternoon quickly turned into a deeply disappointing and uncomfortable experience. Four of us visited this store for ice cream for the first time. There was no greeting, clear direction, or communication about where the line started or how to place an order. When my partner and her friend approached the counter, they were rudely told to “get in line,” despite already having been standing there and following the customers ahead of them. When they tried to explain the misunderstanding, the employee continued to roll her eyes and dismiss them, while appearing to prioritize customers who were not people of color. The employee preparing the ice cream also looked directly at us without acknowledging or assisting us. At that point, the way we were treated made us uncomfortable enough that we decided not to spend our money at the establishment. As a person of color and part of the LGBTQ+ community, this experience was extremely upsetting. No customer should feel unwelcome or disrespected because of who they are. I hope management takes this experience seriously and addresses how customers are treated at this location.

This place was only okay for me. I got the Koala and Panda. The koala was really cute and came with an almond and waffles. The panda came with just Oreos. You get to choose your animal and flavor for ice cream which was nice but it is also a little expensive for only okay ice cream. The Mint Choco chip(koala) was amazing, along with the caramel one. While the coconut/mounds(panda) and pecan one were only okay in my opinion. It would recommend coming here to try it and then decided to come back or not. It definitely is worth the visit though and the animals are really cute and a nice touch. Atmosphere: 4/5 Food: 3/5 Aesthetic for food: 5/5

The cutest little gelato place in the heart of wicker park. Each flavor sounded very unique and interesting, and I wanted to try everything!!! Though it is on the pricier side, the portions were generous and the quality was excellent. I also tried the macaroons and they were good too. A perfect little spot to swing by after dinner on a hot summer evening. Highly recommend!!

The most adorable and tastiest gelato! Eli’s Ark features really unique flavors that can be turned into the cutest animals! I tried the miso mon cherie, which was so rich and not too sweet, and the I got ube, which had such a creamy vanilla flavor, with the capybara and piggy attachments. The texture of this gelato was unbelievable—so smooth and velvety. It’s definitely pricey, but if you want to have some unique flavor combinations with an amazing gelato base and cuteness galore, Eli’s Ark should be your first stop in Wicker Park!
